You've been a special educator your whole life! Many students tell us they knew early in life they wanted to make a difference in the lives of others. They may not have started out looking for a career in special education, but when special education found them, they knew it was the right match.

For over 60 years, students and faculty in Illinois State's special education program have shared life experiences that sparked their interest in becoming special educators. Perhaps it was living with a sibling with autism, seeing a person with low vision navigate a busy intersection, being amazed by the beauty of sign language while attending a church service, or volunteering to help a classmate improve reading skills.

Come to Illinois State to join our community of teachers and learners dedicated to providing children with special needs a great education.
